Surprise! Amazon’s new Robin Hood series on MGM+ is already drawing backlash from fans.
Viewers say the show distorts history and pushes a modern agenda under the guise of a medieval drama.
Fans Call Out “Woke” Rewrite
A post on X went viral after one viewer said they stopped watching after Episode 3, when Little John was introduced who has been race-swapped, played by actor Marcus Fraser (pictured above).
“I was rather enjoying the new Robin Hood series on Amazon. It all looked as authentic as the story should be. Then episode 3 happened and we were introduced to Little John … And that’s the end of that.”
Another user — identifying as Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus — criticized the show for turning the English hero into a pagan rebel fighting “Christian invaders” after the Norman conquest.
The X user argued the story paints Christianity as a foreign oppressor, calling it “a distortion of history purposely to make Christians look like the aggressors and the noble pagan as the oppressed.”
It’s actually worse then you thought. The entire premise of the series is wrong when you consider the anti-Christian narrative and historical inaccuracies of the Robin Hood series. They depict Robin Hood and his family as Saxon pagans fighting against the Christian invaders…

The Historical Reality
That criticism is accurate. England was already a Christian country centuries before William the Conqueror invaded in 1066. Pope Gregory the Great sent Augustine of Canterbury and 40 monks to evangelize the Anglo-Saxons in 597 AD, and Christianity spread across all the English kingdoms soon after.
By the 11th century, both Saxons and Normans were Catholic, and the conquest was a political power struggle, not a religious war. In fact, early Robin Hood tales describe him as attending Mass and devoted to Our Lady, hardly the pagan hero Amazon’s version depicts.

A “Modern” Rewrite
In the MGM+ show, Robin and his family are portrayed as Saxon pagans resisting the “Christian” Normans, twisting centuries of historical record. Fans argue that this kind of revision isn’t “artistic license,” but rather deliberate rewriting, and another example of Hollywood recasting Western history to fit modern ideological trends.
The Series
Robin Hood stars Jack Patten as Rob, Lauren McQueen as Marian, and Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham. The 10-episode season premiered November 2 on MGM+.
