First, Ray Fisher talks about first hearing about the character of Cyborg prior to landing the role.
“I actually grew up watching a lot of these cartoons, a lot of the animated series. Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, all the stuff that would come onto Cartoon Network,” Fisher told fans at the RICC. “My first encounter with Cyborg was actually the Teen Titans cartoon. That was my first encounter with the character. I was in the middle of high school, and I was like, ‘This show speaks to me’ because there were all of these characters going through these real teen issues, but also saving the world. The extent of my knowledge was just about that.”
Ray Fisher went on to say that the DCEU version of Cybog may be a bit different than previous interpretations and comic book.
“Once I was cast, though, they send you a whole library of stuff about the character so I ended up being able to fall in love with the comic book version of him, which can be very different than that particular interpretation" Fisher explained. "I feel like I know him like the back of my hand, but there’s always somebody that knows a little more than me about things.”
Ray Fisher is also asked his thoughts on filming Justice League.
"Imagine if you would. Imagine a world if someone told you, you could eat candy professionally. Like you can go into work and have just all the greatest things in the world," Fisher said. "Definitively the greatest things I've done up until this point. Honestly, across the board, this has been a standalone experience from the people working with, and beautiful and gracious as it's been and welcoming as they were to somebody such as myself whose never really done a feature film or anything like this.
"It ended up being a situation where you go in every day, and it was like you were hanging out with your friends and just so happen to be shooting a movie," Fisher continued. "The whole process for me, I got there in March 2016, and did a month-and-a-half of training prior to starting the shoot. In that time they are shoving all this food in me… going to the gym every day… put on about twenty pounds since I've been there… When we got in there we got to work, and I got to see people in their costumes and on set for the first day, we had all the crew together. It was magical. People would bring their kids to set, like Ben [Affleck] would bring his son and Zack [Snyder] would bring his kids to set, and they would just be floored. You really realize why you are doing this. It's for the people that believe in that magic. I'm honored to be a part of that."
Ray Fisher also describes Victor Stone.
"I would describe Victor Stone… I think his greatest trait is his resilience. The guy has gone through a lot in terms of his physical and mental state. Imagine waking up one day and finding out most of your body is metal. All of sudden you come to and your body is metal, Fisher said."
Ray Fisher continues with talk of what Cyborg means to him.
"I think he represents, basically the t-shirt I'm wearing now, Borg Life, which is the ability to take the negative situations in you life and turn them into something positive to help other people. I feel like he epitomizes that," Fisher offered. "I think we’ve got a lot of very, very interesting dynamics just laid throughout the entire film with all these characters. You know, you see so much, you see where all these people are coming from, you see just how similar they are and just how different they can be at the same time. It’s beautiful to watch. It's beautiful to be a part of and to be able to sit on the other side of these guys and watch them work."
In addition to Justice League, Ray Fisher is heavily speculated for the Ezra Miller Flash movie, and the Cyborg solo film is due out in 2020.
