Predator: Badlands’ $80M Loss: How the Franchise Got Here and What Dies With It

Predator: Badlands has officially wrapped its theatrical run with $184,494,455 at the global box office, a disappointing final number that all but guarantees major changes for the franchise moving forward.

Disney quietly pulled the plug last Thursday as the movie limped to the finish line, unable to recover from early drops and poor international performance.

Predator: Badlands Continues Bombing At Box Office With Brutal Second-Weekend Drop

Final Box Office Breakdown

  • Domestic: $91,083,631 (49.4%)
  • International: $93,410,824 (50.6%)
  • Worldwide Total: $184,494,455

Despite a nearly even split between domestic and overseas grosses, Predator: Badlands never gained real momentum and fell far short of profitability, with losses estimated around $80 million.

Crossover Dead, Franchise Back to Streaming?

The poor showing seems to have killed any momentum for the rumored Aliens vs. Predator crossover that had been in early development.

There’s also been no mention of a Badlands sequel, and we are guessing that Disney is rethinking theatrical plans for the IP altogether.

If the franchise continues at all, the next installment is likely headed straight back to Hulu or Disney+ as another streaming exclusive, like Prey before it.

Not even in Top 5

And contrary to all the gaslighting and shilling from various sites, Predator: Badlands failed to gross the highest box office of the franchises:

  • Alien vs. Predator 2004: $177,427,090 or $437,042,154.83 in today’s dollars
  • Predator 1987: $98,268,458 or $278,493,329.00 in today’s dollars (its domestic alone comes in at $169,290,858.54)
  • Aliens vs Predator: Reqiuem 2007: $130,290,885 or $202,304,590.43 in today’s dollars
  • The Predator 2018: $160,542,134 or $205,830,248.64 in today’s dollars
  • Predators 2010: $127,233,108 or $187,849,949.04 in today’s dollars

Why the flop?
