Producer Jerry Bruckheimer offers another update on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise in that the hopes are two new movies get made, which includes the female version.

There has been recent talk of rebooting the franchise with new actors and characters, and there has been talk of a Margot Robbie Pirates of the Caribbean movie. According to Bruckheimer, it turns out the projects are actually separate.

“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer confirmed to EW.com, with the article pointing out the first is a reboot that has Jeff Nathanson writing the script, with the second female version being written by Christina Hodson who wrote Robbie’s Birds of Prey as well as The Flash and Bumblebee.

“We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too,” Bruckheimer offered.

What about Johnny Depp?

As the franchise is getting rebooted, that sounds like Johnny Depp won’t be back as Captain Jack Sparrow, with Depp’s movies bringing in $4.5 billion.

“It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it,” Bruckheimer said. “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist and he’s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.”

They cracked the reboot

Bruckheimer also said he feels they have gotten the reboot right.

“I think [Jeff Nathanson] cracked it,” Bruckheimer said. “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”

A recent rumor has said Ayo Edebiri is rumored for the female reboot.
