Paramount+ has announced a new original animated series based on Garfield, the iconic orange cat created by Jim Davis.
The upcoming show, currently titled Garfield (working title), will be a 2D animated series produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Emmy Award-winning actor Lamorne Morris has been cast as the voice of the lasagna-loving feline.
The series brings Garfield back to television with a focus on the character’s sarcastic personality and famously lazy attitude that made the comic strip a pop culture staple.
Lamorne Morris Voices Garfield
Lamorne Morris will headline the series as the voice of Garfield. Morris is best known for roles in New Girl and Fargo, with the latter earning him an Emmy Award.
Morris is also set to appear in Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Noir series and is currently in production on Jumanji 4.
In addition to his acting work, Morris hosts The Lamorning After podcast alongside Kyle Shevrin and co-hosts the New Girl rewatch podcast The Mess Around with former co-star Hannah Simone.
Nickelodeon Producing The Series
The Garfield series is being produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios.
Dave H. Johnson (Middlemost Post) and John Trabbic III (SpongeBob SquarePants, Middlemost Post) will serve as executive producers.
Paramount+ describes the series as focusing on Garfield at his best, featuring the character’s signature sarcasm and laid-back antics in each episode.

Garfield remains one of the most recognizable comic strip characters in the world. The franchise reaches more than 200 million daily readers globally and has built a massive social media following.
The character has existed for more than 47 years and has expanded across multiple forms of media and merchandise.
Since becoming part of the Paramount Products & Experiences portfolio, the brand has continued to grow with partnerships across apparel, toys, publishing, food products, and pet-related items.
Part Of Paramount+ Kids Expansion
The Garfield series will expand Paramount+’s kids and family programming lineup.
The streaming service has recently greenlit several additional children’s shows, including The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! Starring The Pigeon.
The new Garfield series adds another major animated brand to Paramount+ as the platform continues building its family entertainment catalog.
