Oscars VFX Now Includes Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and More

The Academy has narrowed down the list of potential nominations for the 2017 VFX Oscar to ten movies, down from the previous twenty.

Making up the list now includes:

  • Alien: Covenant
  • Blade Runner 2049
  • Dunkirk
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Kong: Skull Island
  • Okja
  • The Shape of Water
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
  • War for the Planet of the Apes

Removed from the list are the following:

  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
  • Justice League
  • Life
  • Logan
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
  • Spider-Man Homecoming
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Wonder Woman

The Academy will further narrow down the list to five on January 6, 2018, which will be nominated for the VFX Oscar, with the full list of nominations announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

The Oscars airs Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. EST hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Additionally, starting at 6:30 p.m. EST/3:30 p.m. PST, the Oscars Pre-Show returns to give fans exclusive insider access to all the excitement of the red carpet. The 90-minute special features interviews with nominees, presenters and performers, and brings viewers the best behind-the-scenes moments. ABC and the Academy also released a first look at the 90th Oscars with a promo celebrating the season.

The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on The ABC Television Network. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
