EW.com reports that Michael Rosenbaum will not be returning to the final season of Smallville, as the actor has turned down the offer.

Reportedly, Rosenbaum has “rebuffed attempts” by the show’s producers to get him back on.

“He has put the show behind him and moved on,” says a knowledgeable source. “He’s pursuing his other creative outlet [writing]. By all indications, he is not going to be involved.”

Noted, is the fact that the invitation is still open – but time is short as Smallville is wrapping up production with only three episodes left. One includes the two hour season finale.

Rosenbaum played Clark Kent’s arch-nemesis – and best friend – Lex Luthor.

The final episode to Smallville will be May 13th. Will Lex show?
