The 2017 four-way crossover between episodes of Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow is announced as the series are set to return to The CW starting this October.
The big crossover will be a two-night event kicking off Monday, November 27th at 8pm ET with Supergirl followed by the episode of Arrow (which normally airs Thursdays this year), followed by The Flash on Tuesday, November 28th at 8pm ET and then the episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (it’s noted an episode of Arrow will not air Thursday on that week).
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the president of The CW, Mark Pedowtize, compared this year’s crossover to none other than Marvel’s Avengers (via EW).
“Let me just say, romance is in the air,” he said, likening this big team-up to Marvel’s tentpole movies. “What’s the joy of having the third Avengers? It’s the fun of having everybody get together, that’s the fun of it. You get to see a whole different thing. They’re all big episodic productions, but this will be even bigger.”
Last year’s big crossover was Invasion featuring the DC TV characters taking on aliens, and admittely while tough it’s tough to top aliens, EP Marc Guggenheim says they are taking a different approach for this year.
“Topping last year’s, that’s a high bar, if for no other reason than what do you do that’s bigger than aliens? We’ve got some very, very exciting ideas…. Very early on in the process of doing last year’s crossover, Greg [Berlanti] said there’s probably no way to get bigger than aliens, so the best way to make the [next] crossover especially epic is if you can’t increase the bombast, increase the emotional stakes and the emotional payoffs, so that’s a very oblique comment on where our heads are at for this season.”
