Netflix has announced that 3 Body Problem has been renewed for Season 2.
The science-fiction series hails from Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, and is based on the acclaimed, international bestselling book trilogy.
“3 Body Problem has been renewed! Netflix will bring this epic story through its mind-blowing conclusion!” tweeted Netflix Tudum. Watch the announcement teaser below.
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” the showrunners said in a statement. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”
THR also adds Benioff and Weiss’ Netflix deal has been renewed which sees them write, produce and direct new series and films for Netflix. In addition to new episodes of 3 Body Problem, they are currently working on the recently announced series Death by Lightning.

Update: Deadline says Season 2 will be the last as the new episodes will “conclude the story.”
Update #2: Deadline is wrong as showrunners David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Alexander Woo confirm the renewal is for more than one season and that the number of hours needed to conclude lines up with their original vision.
“We knew going into this how many hours we need to tell the rest of the story because we’ve got a roadmap through to the end,” Weiss told THR. “And we have what we need to get to the end as intended from when we started.”
“By the time we finish with the show, it will be seven years we’ve devoted to it,” Benioff added. “We’re now at a place where we get to tell the rest of the story, and, yes, we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to and that’s immensely gratifying.”
