Last night saw Mission: Impossible – Fallout premiere with its Thursday night previews, which had a strong showing at the box office with $6 million.
The number is better than the previous Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation Thursday showing by $2 million, with the moving having gone on to open with $55.5 million.
Likewise, the number is also better than Jason Bourne, which had a Thursday box office of $4.23 million and went on to have an opening weekend of $59.2 million back in July 2016.
It’s now looking likely that Mission: Impossible – Fallout will have the franchise and Tom Cruise’s largest opening (needs to pass $57.8 million this weekend).
The movie also stars Henry Cavill, with big things expected from him as the role could lead to further leading roles in other films and bolster his career, with talk of him returning to Superman for a Man of Steel 2 movie, and Cavill has also said he is interested in tackling James Bond.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout also has a whopping 98% Fresh score at Rotten Tomatoes, with 192 Fresh to only 4 Rotten reviews; 95% of the audience stated they liked it.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies also opened last night to $1 million (it only cost $10 million to make) and is expected to make back its budget this weekend.
The best intentions often come back to haunt you. “MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT” finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise – “Top Gun,” “American Made,” “The Mummy”) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin – “Saturday Night Live,” “The Boss Baby,” “Beetlejuice,” Simon Pegg – “Star Trek,” “Ready Player One,” Ving Rhames – “Pulp Fiction,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson – “The Greatest Showman,” ”The Girl on the Train,” Michelle Monaghan – “The Bourne Supremacy,” “The Heartbreak Kid”) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill (“Justice League,” “Man of Steel”), Angela Bassett (“Black Panther,” “American Horror Story”), and Vanessa Kirby (“Me Before You,” “The Crown”) also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie (“Jack Reacher”) returning to the helm.
