The Mega Man live-action movie that has been in development for years finally looks to see the light of day at Netflix, as the film is currently in “active development” for the streaming service.

Details include Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, known for the Paranormal Activity franchise, are directing the adaptation of the popular video game franchise from Capcom.

Mega Man 35th anniversary is next year

Next year does see the 35th anniversary of Mega Man, so maybe an official announcement from Capcom and Netflix is forthcoming, though the movie isn’t filming yet, so it seems likely it won’t get released until at least 2023.

The most recent video game releases include Mega Man: The Wily Wars, a compilation of the original three games, and Mega Man Zero, a collection of four games in the Mega Man Zero series. The character is also featured in Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, and Monster Hunter: World. An animated series, Mega Man: Fully Charged, also started airing in 2018.

Mega Man was first released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment system and has spawned over fifty games on multiple systems including selling over 30 million copies. The game sees Mega Man battling Dr. Wily and the evil robots under his control, and as Mega Man clears each level and defeats each robot boss, Mega Man acquires the boss’ unique power which aids him in his quest. Mega Man is also known as Rockman in Japan.
