The internet exploded when it was reported that the Matt Reeves The Batman movie was going to be set outside the existing DCEU and be a standalone movie.
In an interview last month, Matt Reeves said:
“Well, I have a vision for a way to do something with that character that feels like it resonates with me personally, and a perspective that can grow out into other things. When they [Warner Bros.] approached me, what they said was ‘look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe.’”
To add to that, a Joker origins movie was recently announced also said to be outside the DCEU, which only seemingly further substantiated the thought that Matt Reeve’s The Batman movie would also go a similar route and without Ben Affleck.
The good news is that the speculation about The Batman not being a part of the DCEU is wrong, as word has reached Matt Reeves who has taken to Twitter to clear up confusion and states his Batman will be a part of the DC Universe. Likewise, DC Comics co-runner Geoff Johns retweeted what Matt Reeves had to say.
Jeez, what’d I miss, guys…?
Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN…

In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman…

…not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.
