The He-Man live-action Masters of the Universe movie continues to move forward at Amazon MGM Studios with it learned Travis Knight is in final talks to direct.
Travis Knight is known for directing the Transformers Bumblebee movie and has lots of experience in animation.
The live-action Masters of the Universe was in development at Netflix, but Netflix passed on the project over the summer, so it landed at Amazon.
The new update includes that Chris Butler will rewrite the script from the initial draft written by David Callaham and Aaron & Adam Nee who were writing the script while at Netflix.
At the time, actor Kyle Allen was being eyed to play Prince Adam and He-Man, but Deadline makes no mention of Kyle Allen this time around.
Deadline also says Amazon MGM Studios in final negotiations for rights to the project, with Mattel’s Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal producing.
It’s known Todd Black (Equalizer movies starring Denzel Washington, The Magnificent Seven) was also onboard as producer when the live-action Masters of the Universe was at Netflix.
At one time, David S. Goyer was also developing a He-Man movie, I believe at Sony, said to be a “more fantastical version of Lord of the Rings,” but obviously that project didn’t see the light of day.
Dolph Lundgren also starred in the 1987 movie, and recently saw Kevin Smith develop the two animated series at Netflix.
Recently has seen fans mention Zac Efron as wanted to play the role of He-Man, which follows Zac Efron looking like He-Man in The Iron Claw wrestling movie, pictured above.
