Mass Effect Update Confirms New Game and TV Show Are Moving Forward

BioWare marked N7 Day 2025 with a new update on the Mass Effect franchise, addressing recent rumors and offering official word on the next game and the Amazon TV series.

Executive producer Mike Gamble shared the update via the studio’s blog, confirming that development on the next Mass Effect game is active and that the team is fully focused on the project.

Next Mass Effect Game Is in Full Development

According to Gamble, BioWare is “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect.” He said the studio has a lot of ground to cover, including building features, shaping romances, and expanding the universe.

He acknowledged recent speculation about the project, stating directly that EA and BioWare remain committed to the franchise. While no details or gameplay were revealed, Gamble promised that when the time comes, fans will have something worth the wait.

The next installment is expected to follow up on the original trilogy’s storyline and include returning characters like Liara T’Soni, as teased in previous trailers. No release date was mentioned.

“So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”

TV Series Will Tell a New Story After the Original Trilogy

Gamble also confirmed new details about the Mass Effect series in development at Amazon. He said the writers room is active and that the show will feature a brand-new story set after the original trilogy — not a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story.

The series is being developed to fit within official canon and will connect to the broader timeline of the games, including the upcoming title. Gamble noted BioWare is working closely with Amazon to maintain continuity across the franchise.

“Beyond the next game, there’s more to get excited about. I haven’t talked about it much, but you might have heard a little something about a TV series? We’ve been partnering closely with Amazon on it, and we’re really excited with what the talented team over there is coming up with.”

“The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?”
