Marvel Comics artist Mike Deodato Jr. echoes a lot of fan sentiments when it comes to Namor in the MCU.
Much like most fans, it seems as if Deodato isn’t too thrilled with what he sees from Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
In a deleted post, Deodato actually went so far as to mimic the recent trailer and post a side-by-side image of himself in his birthday suit next to actor Tenoch Huerta to prove his point.
“Pencil lifting beats swimming anytime,” he posted adding, “You can tell somebody screwed things up when a character from a movie looks in worst shape than the 60 years old artist who drew him.”
Kevin Feige and the MCU change Namor
Mike Deodato is known for drawing Namor and drawing a rather muscular and epic-looking one at that.
In the Marvel Comics, Namor happens to look more Asian Pacific but Kevin Feige decided to make the MCU’s Namor have a Mayan/Mexican origin for some reason, hence why Tenoch Huerta has been cast as the character in Black Panther 2.
It’s thought the film pits the Atlanteans, again who appear to be of Mayan origin (or vice versa), against the Wakandans, with it even said Namor’s men are responsible for the death of T’Challa offscreen at the start of the movie, due to the unfortunate death of Chadwick Boseman.
I gotta agree with Mike Deodato, here, as the MCU’s Namor doesn’t seem like Namor at all. Maybe Black Panther 2 will prove me wrong?
Deodato proceeded to post his Namor art on his Instagram. Check it out below.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a November 11, 2022 release date directed by Ryan Coogler.
