Marvel’s ‘Nova’ Gets Showrunner Ed Bernero

Marvel’s Nova continues moving forward for Disney+ and officially has a showrunner with Ed Bernero.

Ed Bernero is a television writer, producer, and director known for Third Watch, Criminal Minds, and Crossing Lines.

Deadline says Bernero has replaced Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada who started developing Nova two and a half years ago when it was unclear if the project was going to be a move or TV show. It’s known it is now a TV series and will be featuring Richard Rider.

Some other details about Bernero include that he worked as a police officer in Chicago which served as the inspiration for Third Watch which centers on the lives of police officers in the NYPD, and the firefighters, and Emergency Medical Services in NYC. Well, Richard Rider is from Long Island and joins the Nova Corps, intergalactic space cops, so that fits.

A recent rumor has also said the villain of Nova will be Annihilus who is the bad guy Nova fights in the Marvel Comics event, Annihilation, and who has connections to the Fantastic Four, which we just went over.

Brad Winderbaum, who heads Marvel’s Streaming, Television, and Animation division, also recently stated that Nova will take a more serious tone. He confirmed the series is inspired by Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.

Winderbaum also said he is a fan of Richard Rider as he previously said in an interview, “Nova certainly is exciting to us. We’ve got some great ideas simmering. I think there’s a lot of potential there. I love Nova, also, from the comics, especially the Richard Rider era… we’ll see what happens.”

Hopefully Marvel can do Nova justice. My advice to Winderbaum and Ed Bernero would be to read the original Nova comics from Marv Wolfman, the first Annihilation from the late Keith Giffen and related tie-ins (Annihilation: Nova), and the 2007 Nova series from Dan Abnett. Thanos Imperative is also good. DO NOT READ THE COMICS POST-2010. They ruined the character and the comics. DO NOT USE WOKE NINO SAM ALEXANDER. DO NOT TELL YOUR DIRECTORS AND ACTORS TO NOT READ THE COMICS (it didn’t work out for Secret Invasion or anything else!!!).
