Marvel Under Investigation For Death On ‘Wonder Man’ Set

A crewmember has died on the set of Marvel’s Wonder Man which has sparked an investigation by Marvel Studios and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

A member of the Wonder Man crew died in an accident on set on Tuesday at Radford Studios, where a rigger fell from the rafters. It is reported the incident didn’t happen while the series was filming.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident,” Marvel Studios said in a statement.

THR adds an investigation is under way by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada (IATSE), the union representing the workers, also commented on the death.

“Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues,” said IATSE President Matthew D. Loeb. “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”

What is Wonder Man about?

Wonder Man is in development at Marvel as a Disney+ series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, described as a stuntman-turned superhero.

The MCU series is also described as following Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a failed actor, in a comedy series and a satire of Hollywood.

Ben Kingsley is also said to be returning as Trevor Slattery from the Iron Man movies as well as Shang-Chi, where it’s guessed that since Slattery is another failed actor who suffers from drug addictions and various legal problems, that is how Kingsley’s Slattery connects and knows Simon Williams.

Demetrius Grosse is also playing Simon’s brother, Eric Williams, aka Grim Reaper, the apparent villain of the series.

No release date has been announced. The show has been filming in downtown Los Angeles.
