I’ll believe this when I see it, but it’s claimed that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are developing The Annihilators movie for the MCU.
The rumor comes via Daniel RPK.
Recall that Nova was also in development for the MCU but apparently canceled because it was deemed too expensive as a result of all the shitty MCU shows on Disney+ failing. That’s why Daredevil: Born Again has such a low budget.
Who are The Annihilators?
Making up The Annihilators – The Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes in the comics – is Wendell Vaughn Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Richard Rider Nova, the Silver Surfer, and Ronan.
The team also features Cosmo and introduces Ikon, a Spaceknight.
The super cosmic team first appeared back in 2011 in The Thanos Imperative: Devastation and was also featured in their own mini-series.
MCU destroyed Marvel Cosmic and continues to do so
They came together at the tail end of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s stellar run on Marvel Cosmic, which was canceled as a result of the MCU greenlighting James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
So not directly Gunn’s fault, what the clowns did who run Marvel Comics when Feige greenlit Guardians of the Galaxy, they canceled the entire line of Marvel Cosmic that they previously didn’t give a shit about. It gets better, they fired Abnett and Lanning and the entire creative team responsible for inspiring the MCU’s multi-billion dollar franchise and put themselves on the book.
Canceled and relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy
Brian Bendis, who had no no business and couldn’t write cosmic if his life depended on it, took over Guardians of the Galaxy. It was relaunched with literally 30 variant covers, so then-Marvel EIC Axel Alonso (the “Obama” of comics) could say in interviews how popular Guardians was to make it look like the same to the normies. Bendis would write the Guardians goofy AF to match with Gunn’s goofy movies.
Canceled, killed off and relaunched Nova
We’re not done. They would kill off Richard Rider, cancel Nova, and replace him with the woke teen wannabe, NINO, Nova in Name Only, Sam Alexander (along with Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, Kate Bishop, Falcon Cap, etc.). Both Mark Waid and Jeph Loeb would take cracks at NINO, with a marketing campaign Abnett never got, but it failed every time. Eventually, they brought back Richard Rider in a lame attempt to sell NINO to fans. That was from the clown behind Quantumania. How’d that work out?
Killed off and replaced Quasar
Meanwhile, prior to Abnett taking over Marvel Cosmic, Marvel Comics came up with the bright idea to kill off Quasar and replace him with an alien, clone, space lesbian — Phyla-Vell, who Gunn used in Guardians. That’s when Cosmic Book News was born. Led by yours truly, we loathed Phyla replacing Quasar. We petitioned Marvel to bring back Wendell Vaughn as Quasar and even sent the Marvel Comics offices the legendary Quasar cake. Marvel loved it and when Abnett, Lanning and Editor Bill Rosemann took over Marvel Cosmic following Annihilation, they brought back Wendell Vaughn as Quasar and gave Phyla her own identify, Martyr.
However, following the Marvel Comics clowns firing and cancelling the run of Abnett cosmic, they did it again to Quasar, not once but I believe twice, maybe more. They again replaced Quasar with a female wannabe, and every time they did it, they had to come up with something that didn’t make sense to explain why it happened, just like they did with Phyla. It wasn’t about telling a story, never was, it was all about the agenda. How’d it work out?
MCU’s The Annihilators?
Now for The Annihilators in the MCU, only one of the members has actually been introduced with Ronan in Gunn’s Guardians, but he’s dead. Oh, wait, Cosmo is now a girl courtesy Gunn in the MCU, too. So that’s two members.
The Annihilators comics also weren’t very good. I can recall Abnett had Ikon kneeing Quasar in the balls, which I figured was Abnett’s symbol of how he felt at the time. It’s how we fans also felt at the time and to this day, still do.
Who’s the MCU’s The Annihilators? Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Monica Rambeau, the female Cosmo, and Ikon? Maybe the female Silver Surfer makes her way to the regular MCU from FF? Good luck.
