Recently, there’s been chatter that Kurt Russell is the top pick to portray Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. This speculation has now gained more substance as the actor confirms he’s in discussions regarding the role.
The Kurt Russell Connection
Adding fuel to the fire, Russell himself shared in an MTV podcast that he’s indeed been talking to James Gunn, the man behind the film. However, he confessed that he hadn’t seen the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so his decision to participate in the sequel is still indefinite.
In Russell’s words, “I literally got a phone call about this two days ago. I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy, so I don’t know anything about it. I’ve heard it’s a fun and well-made movie with compelling characters. But I simply don’t know it!”
Choosing Carefully
Russell also confessed that he was unaware that James Gunn had written and directed the first movie. He found himself expressing gratitude for being considered for the role despite his lack of familiarity with the movie. “I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read the script, and I have to watch the first movie because I can’t bring anything for you right now. I’ve got nothing to offer here. I’m astounded to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”
Continuing this thought, Russell mused, “It could be a one-line thing for all I know. But yeah, we’re talking about it… there’s simply nothing to discuss at the moment.”
Fans are eager to find out if Kurt Russell will indeed be joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is set to hit the screens on May 5, 2017.
