Jumanji: Open World Title Revealed With First Footage at CinemaCon

Sony officially unveiled the title for the next Jumanji movie at CinemaCon, and it’s called Jumanji: Open World.

Stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black took the stage Monday night in Las Vegas to close out Sony’s presentation, where they introduced the first trailer for the new film.

The trailer, which hasn’t been released online, opens with a repairman played by Lamorne Morris arriving at the home of Spencer’s mother, Janice, played by Marin Hinkle.

Inside, he comes across an old video game console. From there, the footage shifts to chaos in the real world, including supernatural storm clouds forming over a house and ostriches running through city streets.

The footage then catches up with Spencer and his friends at a restaurant, where they run into Spencer’s grandfather, played by Danny DeVito. He points them toward a booth where Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone is already sitting there, only this time speaking with a Spanish accent.

Sony’s preview revealed the big twist of the new movie: Jumanji has crossed over into the real world.

Johnson, Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan all appear as their game avatars, but in what the footage calls “demo mode.”

At one point, Black’s character says, “I’m beginning to suspect that we’re not in Jumanji,” making it clear the rules have changed again.

Kevin Hart also teased at CinemaCon that in this movie, the usual game rules do not apply, and the four main avatar actors each play multiple versions of their characters.

Robin Williams tribute teased

Johnson also said the movie includes an Easter egg honoring Robin Williams.

He told the CinemaCon crowd the film features one half of the original dice from the first Jumanji and added, “This one’s for you.”

That lines up with Johnson’s recent Instagram post from production wrap, where he again dedicated the movie to Williams and said playing Dr. Smolder Bravestone was done in his spirit with respect, love, and joy.

Returning cast and what the story sets up

Jumanji: Open World brings back the core cast from the recent movies, including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser’Darius Blain. Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito are also back, with Lamorne Morris appearing in the new footage description as the repairman who finds the console.

Based on the CinemaCon footage, the story sends the teen characters back into the game while also dealing with Jumanji spilling into the real world. The stakes involve saving both worlds, which looks like a bigger setup than the previous two movies. Jack Black called it his favorite of the new trilogy and teased that the movie is “wild” and pulls out all the stops.

Release date

Jumanji: Open World will be released in theaters on December 25, 2026. Sony previously moved the film from December 11 to Christmas Day.
