James Gunn again confirms the villain of his Superman movie and shoots down a rumor surrounding the film.
While it’s known Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, some fans have been questioning if Superman features another villain or villains.
However, Gunn sticks to his guns and confirms it’s Lex.
What does James Gunn say about the Superman villain?
A fan questioned on Threads, “Maybe I’m late to this but do we know who the villain is in Superman?”
“Lex Luthor,” responded Gunn.
With the casting of María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer casting descriptions have offered the character is more of a villain. The Engineer happens to be a member of the super group, The Authority, who is supposed to get a DCU movie.
When asked if The Authority were also a villain, Gunn replied, “Nope.”
Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is the Superman villain
Previously, Gunn also confirmed Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor as the villain when questioned about rumors surrounding another character seen in set leaks and which toy leaks have seemingly confirmed.
“The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor,” said Gunn.
He continued, “I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention.”
Gunn added, “So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?).”
Superman gets released July 11, 2025 and also stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
