James Gunn Hints No Superman For Comic-Con; Confirms Fortress of Solitude

Summary

  • James Gunn is currently filming his new Superman movie, with updates being shared on social media
  • The big reveal of the cast may happen at the Brazil Comic-Con in December 2024, not this Summer’s SDCC
  • Filming for the movie is expected to continue until at least August, with some scenes being shot in Norway for the Fortress of Solitude

James Gunn is officially underway filming his new Superman movie where he offers a couple of updates on social media regarding a potential Comic-Con appearance this summer and shooting a Fortress of Solitude scene in Norway.

Regarding Comic-Con, some fans may have felt this summer in San Diego would have been a great time to unveil the cast to the world, which would be a year prior to the July 2025 release date.

However, Gunn may be saving the big reveal for a later date.

Comic-Con in doubt, by maybe the Brazil CCXP?

On Threads, a fan asked Gunn if he is excited for Comic-Con.

Gunn replied, “I will be shooting.”

Another fan mentioned the big Brazil Comic-Con which takes place in December, so maybe the big reveal will happen there.

“I’ve been to that very comic con,” replied Gunn.

Worth a mention is that Gunn should be done filming by December 2024, and Gunn previously said he wouldn’t reveal the new David Corenswet Superman suit until he is finished filming, so maybe that December 2024 Brazil Comic Con could be the big day.

Filming in Norway

Regarding filming, it’s thought the Superman movie will be filming until at least August, so that is around six months. There could also be reshoots, though Gunn usually doesn’t have long reshoots, so maybe that would add only a couple of weeks.

Speaking with press in Norway, Gunn revealed why they chose Svalbard as a location and confirmed the Fortress of Solitude (translated via Google via vg.no):

We have filmed the first scenes which are when Superman flees to the ice fortress. We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else. Nature gives a special feeling, says Gunn to Svalbardposten.

It’s also known Gunn is filming scenes in Atlanta, Georgia as well as the birthplace of the Man of Steel, Cleveland, Ohio, with filming said to start in Ohio on April 1.
