James Gunn has confirmed that Wonder Woman is officially in development for the DCU, and no, it’s not the Paradise Lost series which is in development.
Wonder Woman being worked on
In a new interview with EW.com, Gunn revealed that a standalone Wonder Woman project is currently being written. While details are still under wraps, Gunn made it clear that Diana of Themyscira will play a major role in the future of the DC Universe:
“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”

Paradise Lost underway
Gunn also provided a small update on Paradise Lost, the HBO Max prequel series centered on the Amazons of Themyscira. That project is still happening, but development is moving slow:
“[Paradise Lost is] slow moving, but it’s moving.”
Gunn Backs Zaslav’s Comments
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently called Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman pillar characters and asset-builders for the DC brand. Gunn backed up that statement:
“I think that’s accurate, actually. I think that he got that from something I said. I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us.”

No Wonder Woman Casting Yet
The article also states that the cast for both Paradise Lost and the Wonder Woman film has not been revealed as of yet. It’s thought that Gunn will recast for a new Wonder Woman, as Gal Gadot is said to be out.
Gunn added that he feels “great” about two of those characters, referring to Superman (played by David Corenswet in Superman) and Supergirl (to be played by Milly Alcock). As for Batman and Wonder Woman, plans are still in progress:
“Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
No Creative Team Known
No writers or directors have been announced for either the Wonder Woman movie or Paradise Lost as well. Gunn simply confirmed that the script is being worked on, with no timeline shared for casting or production.
Gunn’s Superman flies into theaters on July 11. Supergirl hits June 26, 2026.
