Surprise! Ahead of tomorrow’s premiere on Amazon Prime Video, Invincible Season 4 is changing Tech Jacket from the comics, as the popular character has been reimagined as a young woman named Zoe, appropriately voiced by actress Zoey Deutch.
The reveal comes from Season 4 cast information, which states: “Unlike the comics, Tech Jacket has been reimagined as a young woman named Zoe, voiced by Zoey Deutch.”
That’s already getting attention from fans, especially those familiar with Robert Kirkman’s comics and the role Tech Jacket plays during the larger cosmic story.
Tech Jacket Is A Fan-Favorite From The Comics
In the comics, Tech Jacket is Zack Thompson, a teenage human who bonds with advanced alien armor that gives him massive power, including flight, durability, strength, and space-faring abilities.
The character goes on to become involved in intergalactic wars and cosmic conflicts, which is why a lot of fans have long viewed Tech Jacket as one of the bigger sci-fi heroes tied to the Invincible universe.
The concept also has shades of characters like Nova from Marvel and Green Lantern from DC, with a young Earth hero getting pulled into a much larger alien conflict through futuristic power and responsibility.
That is also why the change is getting such a strong reaction. For a lot of fans, Tech Jacket is not some throwaway background character. He has his own identity, his own history, and his own relationships in the comics.

Fans Are Worried About The Allen Dynamic
One of the biggest concerns is what happens to Tech Jacket’s friendship with Allen the Alien.
Comic readers have pointed to the buddy dynamic between Allen and Tech Jacket as one of the reasons they were looking forward to seeing the character adapted. That includes the beard joke from the comics, which fans now think may be gone entirely.
One fan reaction making the rounds says they are usually fine with character swaps, but this one feels different because they loved Tech Jacket’s friendship with Allen and do not think it can be the same with the character changed to a woman.
Another fan joked about whether a more awkward alien romance joke from the Tech Jacket comics could still happen, though that material comes from Tech Jacket’s own series and not Invincible itself.
Invincible Expands The Cosmic Side In Season 4
The Tech Jacket reveal was part of a larger Season 4 cast announcement that also confirmed more cosmic and Viltrumite-related characters are on the way.
Matthew Rhys is voicing Dinosaurus and his human form. Danai Gurira is voicing Universa. Jonathan Banks is voicing The Brit. Djimon Hounsou is voicing Space Racer. Lee Pace is voicing Grand Regent Thragg.
Season 4 is seems to be leaning harder into the larger war-driven side of the Invincible universe albeit reimagined for a modern day audience.
