Infinity War Cast Reveals How They Learned Of Ending

Marvel Studios is known for being more secretive than SHIELD itself, with most of the cast of The Avengers: Infinity War not even knowing the ending of the movie, which featured the Great Titan Thanos snapping his fingers and making half the universe disappear and turn to dust, including the Marvel heroes.

Now while at this weekend’s Ace Seattle Comic-Con, members of the cast reveal how and when they were told about their characters’ demise, as Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany revealed they were told about it right before the scene was to film.

I found out from the Russos exactly what was going to happen and it wasn’t until we shot it on that day we learned what the ending was. They took us into a van – all of us – we were in a van with air conditioning because it was very hot and they told us how the movie was going to end and no one knew. And they were like ‘Now we’re shooting it, Go!’ and we were like ‘How are we supposed to interpret that?’

Infinity War

While the new Avengers only found out the day of the shoot, Tom Hiddleston reveals he actually has known for two years when Loki was going to die in Infinity War.

“So, I’ve known about that scene for two years. I met with Marvel in May 2016, and they were actually telling me the story of Ragnarok with concept art and images. The Russos came in, and I introduced myself. So, all four of us sat down, and they said this is how Infinity War begins.”

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki met his maker at the start of The Avengers: Infinity War, which was a continuation from the Thor: Ragnarok post-credit scene that featured Thanos’ ship finding the Asgardians at the end of the movie. What’s pretty interesting is the fact that Tom Hiddleston and Loki were a part of the promotion of Infinity War, as well as interviews, but the character only appeared in the first few minutes.

I recall during Infinity War filming that there were all kinds of speculation and theories regarding Loki, including the one of being a “friend” to Thanos (essentially taking Mephisto’s place from the comics), but when I saw the start of Infinity War with Loki, I knew he wasn’t going to make it (well done, Marvel).

While it is speculated whatever happens in The Avengers 4 might bring back both Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision, as they died as a result of the Infinity Stones, Loki was killed when Thanos snapped his neck, so it remains to be seen if Tom Hiddleston will be a part of The Avengers 4 or Marvel’s Phase 4 plans. Loki is known for being a trickster and has appeared as different forms in the comics (i.e. a woman), so Marvel Studios could always use a different actor down the line, as Tom Hiddleston’s contract is said to be up.
