Matthew McConaughey is a big fan-favorite choice to be cast in the DCEU or MCU, with some fans thinking the actor would be a good pick for Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Matthew McConaughey’s co-star in The Dark Tower has a different recommendation–a young Odin!

Speaking with MTV, Idris Elba offers that if Matthew McConaughey ever came into the Marvel family, that McConaughey would be an excellent pick to play a younger version of Thor’s father, Odin, presently played by Anthony Hopkins, if the story ever permitted it: “Play a young version of him. Smash it.”

Matthew McConaughey also offers up that he did pass on a few superhero roles.

“There were a few that came over the last few years that were franchises that had been established, one that I even enjoyed,” McConaughey said. “But when they came to me, the roles for me felt a bit like amendments — like, ‘Hey, the first one worked, let’s bring you in in a really tasty role.’ When this came on, it was like, ‘Good. I can be the author of this character. I can get in at the ground floor. We can begin with a whole new team and have a creation and have an original.’ That still turns me on.”

Regarding Matthew McConaughey playing Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it seems doubtful as director James Gunn thinks he is too old for the role.

“I think McConaughey would be too old for the role of Adam Warlock,” Gunn said. “Adam Warlock is basically a baby because he is just being born so… I got a lot of people giving me ideas for Adam Warlock online and I’m like ‘the guys is 65 years old. How can you have him be…?’ It’s Adam Warlock. He’s a baby. I got David Bowie all the time before David passed.”

Matthew McConaughey was actually up to play Ego for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 at one time. Here is the concept art:
