House of the Dragon Season 3 could be another disaster in the making, which of course follows the disappointing second season.
As I said in my reviews, I believe the budget was massively cut, which was basically confirmed by the showrunner following the disastrous season finale from back in August. Hey, maybe Zaslav can drop another $200 million on another Joker movie instead?
Then creator George R.R. Martin posted how he was going to talk about all the problems surrounding the show, which he did, then deleted, and then HBO was forced to officially comment on Martinâs blog post at the time (see below). Martin also recently said the latest Game of Thrones spinoff is low budget and set in a field. Oh, joy. HBO also still hasnât announced anything about House of the Dragon Season 3, no production start date or premiere.

Matt Smith talks House of the Dragon at NYCC
Now we hear from Matt Smith via an appearance at the recent NYCC who attended the convention with co-stars Fabian Frankel (Criston Cole) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen).
Matt Smith said he hasnât heard zip about House of the Dragon Season 3.
âNothing. Not a jot,â shot back Smith when host Josh Horowitz asked if anybody has seen a script or anything.
Glynn-Carney added, âNot a letter.â
Horowitz questioned the trio if they are anxious or have been pestering the writers to which they all said ânoâ and shook their heads.
âThe longer they take, the longer we donât have to read anything for a while,â Glynn-Carney joked.
Horowitz pressed and asked if they had any conversations or any inkling about House of the Dragon Season 3.
âIâve not heard hide nor hair,â said Smith, with Glynn-Carney shaking his head and saying, âNo.â
Smith continued and asked the other two, âNo, I have not heard a thing, have you?â
Frankel responded and teased, âIâve heard something⊠Iâve heard some things that I couldnât possibly share.â
Horowitz then switched gears and asked the three if they have made any requests to the writers about their characters for next season.
âMakes me thing I should,â Smith replied, which saw the crowd laugh, and they continued joking about why Smith and Frankelâs characters had interaction in Season 1 but nothing in Season 2 and that Glynn-Carneyâs character had no cock but hoped to get it back in Season 3.

What did George R..R. Martin say about House of the Dragon?
Regarding what Martin had to say, which followed showrunner Ryan Condal announcing the series would conclude with Season 4, in a deleted blog post from Sept. 4, he didnât like the changes to House of the Dragon. Those changes included the elimination of the character Prince Maelor, the youngest son of Glynn-Carneyâs Aegon and Helaena.
Martin finished the deleted post by saying, âAnd there are larger and more toxic butterflies to come, if HOUSE OF THE DRAGON goes ahead with some of the changes being contemplated for seasons 3 and 4âŠâ
Following Martinâs blog post, HBO released the following statement at the time:
âThere are few greater fans of George R.R. Martin and his book âFire & Bloodâ than the creative team on âHouse of the Dragon,â both in production and at HBO. Commonly, when adapting a book for the screen, with its own format and limitations, the showrunner ultimately is required to make difficult choices about the characters and stories the audience will follow. We believe that Ryan Condal and his team have done an extraordinary job and the millions of fans the series has amassed over the first two seasons will continue to enjoy it.â
