Netflix just dropped the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein during its Tudum event, confirming the long-awaited film will stream this November.
The movie features Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Monster, alongside Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
“Only Monsters Play God,” teased Netflix. Watch the trailer below.

Longtime Passion Project for Del Toro
Frankenstein is written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, who has described the film as deeply personal. Speaking at a previous Netflix event, del Toro said he’s been dreaming of making Frankenstein for over 50 years and has seriously worked to develop it for at least two decades.
“The character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography,” del Toro said. “It doesn’t get more personal than this.”
The trailer showcases a gothic, atmospheric take on Mary Shelley’s novel, focusing on themes of obsession, creation, and loss.

What’s the Story?
Based on the classic tale, Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but reckless scientist, as he creates life from dead tissue. His experiment backfires, setting off a tragic chain of events that ultimately destroys both the creator and his creation.
Netflix describes the plot as centering on Dr. Pretorius, played by Christoph Waltz, who tracks down Frankenstein’s Monster decades after he was believed to have died in a fire. Pretorius wants to continue the original experiments.

Cast and Characters
The cast includes:
- Oscar Isaac – Dr. Victor Frankenstein
- Jacob Elordi – The Monster

The film was shot in Aberdeen, Scotland, and leans heavily into gothic horror and romantic imagery. Del Toro has said that “gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins,” a theme he visually explores throughout the movie.
