Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will begin filming next year confirms Chris Pratt on social media.

Chris Pratt confirmed the 2019 filming date while offering fellow Guardians member, Pom Klementieff, a happy birthday.

“Happy Birthday @pom.klementieff whom many of you know as Mantis!!! She’s such a unique, talented and driven artist. Can’t wait to start shooting Guardians Vol. 3 with her next year! Hope you’re having a good day Pom!” Chris Pratt said on Instagram.

Marvel Studios has yet to announce a release date, but it’s looking likely that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be released May 1, 2020. Marvel Studios also set untitled movie releases dates for July 31, 2020 and November 6, 2020.

Not much is known about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but James Gunn has said it will feature the last iteration of the current team. Speaking of the current team, it remains to be seen just how many of them will be around following Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. There could always be a slight chance that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 takes place in the past – prior to the events of Infinity War – as Marvel has Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel taking place prior to Infinity War. It’s also said the Black Widow movie may take place in the past as well.

Obviously if Guardians of the Galaxy 3 doesn’t take place in the past, Chris Pratt just sort of spoiled that Star-Lord and Mantis will survive Avengers 4, which really doesn’t come off as too surprising.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will also be a part of Marvel’s Phase 4 plans along with Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, and it’s been said Phase 4 is going even more COSMIC, so it will be interesting to see what James Gunn does with the film. Fans are hoping for even more COSMIC characters such as Adam Warlock, who was teased in GOTG 2. Guess we’ll find out some time next year!
