The Greatest American Hero is getting a comeback at Fox.
The cult-classic 80s âsuperheroâ series has been given a pilot order for a reboot, reports Deadline, which is stated to be a new take on the 1981 sci-fi dramedy shepherded by The Lego Movie writers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.Â
The Greatest American Hero creator Steven J. Cannellâs daughter, Tawnia McKiernan, will executive produce the new hour-long action-comedy along with Lord and Miller.
The reboot will also be written and executive produced by Rodney Rothman, known for 22 Jump Street, Grudge Match, and David Letterman.
The Greatest American Hero reboot: will chronicle inner-city teacher Isaacâs adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit which gives him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit, and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suitâs instructions. He also has to deal with a government handler who has very different objectives than him and struggles as to whether should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself.
The original series starred William Katt and Robert Culp, which aired for two seasons on ABC.Â
