THR reports both movies will film at the new Qingdao Movie Metropolis, China’s new film studio, television production and theme park, which will hold the largest indoor studio and an advanced temperature-controlled underwater stage.
Legendary Entertainment, which is involved with both Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2, was recently purchased by the Chinese. The Chinese also purchased AMC Theaters in 2012.
Pacific Rim 2 has a February 23, 2018 release and is expected to start filming next month. Steven S. DeKnight is on board as the director with the movie starring John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Max Martini, Tian Jing and Ron Perlman.
Godzilla 2 has a March 22, 2019 release; Garth Edwards is not returning to direct and no cast has been announced. Godzilla will also be facing King Kong in Godzilla Vs. Kong which is scheduled for a May 29, 2020 release date.
