George Romero’s Empire of the Dead Coming To AMC

We have The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead and now a third zombie series is coming to AMC with George Romero’s Empire of the Dead, which is not related to the Robert Kirkman-created Walker universe.

The news comes from comic book artist Arthur Suydam who did the variant cover art for Romero’s Marvel comics series of the same name.

“The series I just finished up for Marvel Comics as a matter of fact, so this is me and George Romero, and this just got signed by AMC. So it’s going to be the next big zombie series on AMC,” Suydam told WHAS11 while attending the Wizard World Louisville Comic-Con.

Word first hit about the Empire of the Dead TV series back in May with mention the series will be written by Geroge Romero and longtime partner Peter Grunwald, and executive produced by Romero and Grunwald with Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

Empire of the Dead is set in NYC and features vampires as well. Here is a description of the first issued published back in January 2014:

ZOMBIE GODFATHER GEORGE ROMERO UNLEASHES HIS NEXT UNDEAD EPIC—AS AN ALL-NEW MARVEL COMIC! Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted—but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don’t think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple! Plus: It’s a terrorizing team-up in variant cover form when the Zombie Godfather unites with the Zombie King – Arthur Suydam!
