Following The Creator, Gareth Edwards is up to direct the new Jurassic World reboot at Universal Pictures.

David Leitch was first said to be in talks but quickly departed the project, said to be on amicable terms.

Deadline reports the new Jurassic World movie “will be a completely fresh,” and the site previously reported the flick is “a complete reboot” being fast-tracked at Universal.

It’s further said Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to return, nor are original trilogy actors Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.

No plot details are known.

Great special effects

Gareth Edwards comes off The Creator which stars John David Washington and is set against the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence. The film didn’t do well at the box office, but it’s a decent enough movie and has some damn fine special effects. The story and how things played out could have used some work, but it’s worth a watch.

Edwards actually specializes in special effects, and with a budget of only $80 million, The Creator looks a lot better than movies with more than twice the budget. The flick is nominated for the Best VFX Oscar; so bringing him on Jurassic World makes sense and will likely save cents.

The writer of the first two Jurassic Park movies, David Koepp, wrote the script, and producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall are returning, where it’s said Edwards impressed the pair, so they are just waiting on the deal to be done and then things will move forward with the new movie.

Gareth Edwards is also known for Star Wars: Rogue One, Godzilla, and Monsters.
