Game of Thrones Gets A Prequel

Game of Thrones Prequel

Winter isn’t over quite yet as it’s revealed HBO has greenlit a Game of Thrones prequel series.

HBO announces the Game of Thrones prequel pilot will be from writer Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret ServiceX-Men: First ClassKick-Ass), which is one of five projects that are in development.

The official description for the series states:

Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.

Jane Goldman is the co-creator of the project along with author George R.R. Martin, both wrote the story, with Goldman writing the script, who will also serve as showrunner. Both Goldman and Martin will also executive produce along with current GOT executive producer Daniel Zelman.

Martin previously said the new Game of Thrones prequel series is not a spinoff from the current show and won’t feature any of the characters.

The four other Game of Thrones projects are being developed by Max Borenstein, Brian Helgeland, Carly Wray, and Bryan Cogman.

Game of Thrones Season 8, the final for the series, is expected to launch Summer 2019.

HBO also has said any new shows won’t launch until a year or so following the end of Season 8.
