First Look at Nicolas Cage as John Madden in New Biopic

Amazon MGM Studios has started production on Madden, with Nicolas Cage taking on the role of legendary Raiders coach and broadcaster John Madden.

Cage and Bale Take the Field

The first official image shows Nicolas Cage transformed into Madden, alongside Christian Bale as Raiders owner Al Davis. The film, directed by David O. Russell, centers on Madden’s career from Super Bowl-winning coach to iconic voice of football. Russell wrote the screenplay, revising an earlier draft by Cambron Clark.

Amazon also recently revealed a first look at Nicolas Cage in the upcoming Spider-Man: Noir live-action series.

Along with Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale, the cast also includes:

  • John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins who launched the Madden video games

Plot Covers Coaching to Broadcasting

The Madden biopic follows Nicolas Cage’s character through key phases of his life:

  • Leading the Raiders to a Super Bowl win
  • Leaving coaching due to health concerns
  • Teaming with EA Sports to help shape the Madden NFL video game
  • Becoming a top football broadcaster

The film highlights how Madden’s deep knowledge of the sport translated into a new kind of teaching—from the digital field to TV screens.

Backed by a Strong Production Team

Producers include Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and David O. Russell, with Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini serving as executive producers. The project is also supported by Skydance Sports and SMAC Entertainment.

Madden is currently in production, with no release date announced.
