Christopher Eccleston wants Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies fired, which he says is the only way he will ever come back to the show.
The actor debuted as the Ninth Doctor in 2005 as part of the new series; however, he only lasted one season.
While attending the UKâs For The Love Of Sci-Fi 2023 convention, he appeared at a panel with Billie Piper and was asked, âWhat would have to happen for that to become a reality?â
Itâs known Christopher Eccleston didnât part ways with Doctor Who on amicable terms.
âSack Russell T Davies. Sack Jane Tranter. Sack Phil Collinson. Sack Julie Gardner. And Iâll come back,â he answered. âSo can you arrange that?â
Damn. Christopher Eccleston doesnât hold back. Whatâs it gonna take to get him back to Doctor Who?pic.twitter.com/rUGxNOgIIw

Blacklisted
He also filled in The Guardian back in 2018 that he was blacklisted and forced to move to America to get work:
âWhat happened around Doctor Who almost destroyed my careerâŚI gave them a hit show and I left with dignity and then they put me on a blacklist. I was carrying my own insecurities as it was something I had never done before and then I was abandoned, vilified in the tabloid press and blacklisted. I was told by my agent at the time: âThe BBC regime is against you. Youâre going to have to get out of the country and wait for regime change.â So I went away to America and I kept on working because thatâs what my parents instilled in me. My dad always said to me: âI donât care what you do â sweeping the floor or whatever youâre doing â just do the best job you can.â I know itâs cliched and northern and all that bollocks, but it applies.â
He also told the Radio Times back then:
âMy relationship with my three immediate superiors â the showrunner, the producer and co-producer â broke down irreparably during the first block of filming and it never recovered. They lost trust in me, and I lost faith and trust and belief in them.

Loves Doctor Who
At the Love Of Sci-Fi 2023 convention, Christopher Eccleston also added he has no ill will regarding playing the Timelord as he was asked, âDid you find it hard to be associated with the character?â
âNot at all, I love being associated, just donât like being associated with those people and the politics that went on in the first series. The first series was a mess, and it wasnât to do with me or Billie [Piper], it was to do with the people who were supposed to make it, and it was a mess,â he said.
Russell T Davies is back as showrunner on Doctor Who which sees the return of David Tennant and the Fifteenth Timelord played by Ncuti Gatwa.
