Kathryn Hahn is officially joining Disney’s live-action Tangled, and she’s taking on the villain role fans had already been circling.
Hahn has been confirmed to play Mother Gothel in the remake of the 2010 animated hit, joining Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
The casting was revealed in very Disney fashion, with Hahn appearing in a social media video wearing a Mother Gothel shirt and making it clear she is stepping into the role.
Kathryn Hahn Is Mother Gothel
Mother Gothel is the main villain of Tangled, the manipulative woman who keeps Rapunzel locked away in a tower so she can use the magic of her hair to stay young.
In the animated movie, the character was voiced by Donna Murphy, who turned “Mother Knows Best” into one of the movie’s standout songs.
Hahn is an easy fit for the role. She already has Disney villain energy thanks to her turn as Agatha Harkness in Marvel’s WandaVision and Agatha All Along, and Mother Gothel gives her another larger-than-life character to play with.
Disney’s Tangled Cast Comes Together
Hahn joins Teagan Croft, best known for Titans, who is playing Rapunzel. Milo Manheim, known for Disney’s Zombies franchise, is playing Flynn Rider.
The remake has been one of Disney’s more watched live-action projects, partly because Tangled remains one of the studio’s most popular modern animated movies.
The original film starred Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider and became a major hit for Disney, blending the classic princess formula with a more modern tone and CG animation.
