Disney+ appears to be facing another major engagement problem as new data suggests Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is significantly underperforming compared to its breakout first season.
The second season has apparently lost 63% of its audience.
Notably, Disney has remained silent on Season 2 viewership, which is a sharp contrast to the aggressive promotion and boasting that accompanied Season 1’s launch.

Season 2 Suffers Massive Sophomore Slump
New data from Luminate paints a very different picture for Season 2.
After three weeks of release, Season 2 has logged just 483 million U.S. minutes streamed, while Season 1 pulled in 1.3 billion minutes over the same timeframe.
That translates to roughly 11.2 million estimated views for Season 2 versus 31.5 million for Season 1.
It’s a decline of 63%.

Disney Silent As Engagement Drops
Unlike Season 1, Disney has not released any official viewership numbers for Season 2.
The silence is notable, especially given how prominently Percy Jackson was previously used to signal momentum for the platform amid ongoing Marvel and Star Wars fatigue.
We’ll know more once Nielsen reveals it’s official data, as Disney+ automatically has Nielsen tracking activated in user accounts.

Why the drop?
Percy Jackson’s Season 2 drop may be tied to the two-year gap between seasons, younger viewers aging out, and the show failing to grow beyond its core book-reader audience, with the decline far steeper than normal despite a December release.
The slump also reflects bigger Disney+ issues, as overall original-series engagement has collapsed, teen and adult viewers have drifted away (Marvel and Star Wars), and Disney has turned to folding Hulu into the platform to prop up engagement.

Season 3 Is Still Happening
Despite the ratings slide, Disney renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Season 3 ahead of Season 2’s debut.
The next season will adapt The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Rick Riordan’s series.
However, if the downward trend continues, the long-term future of the adaptation could depend on whether it can reverse the sophomore slump.
