Disney has officially cast Teagan Croft (Titans) as Rapunzel in its upcoming live-action Tangled.
The actress will play the tower-bound princess with magical golden hair, taking over the role voiced by Mandy Moore in the 2010 animated film.
Milo Manheim to Play Flynn Rider
Joining Croft is Milo Manheim (Zombies), cast as Flynn Rider, the charming thief who helps Rapunzel escape and uncovers the truth about her identity. Zachary Levi voiced the character in the original.
Scarlett Johansson Exits as Gothel
While Scarlett Johansson was once eyeing the role of Mother Gothel, she has exited the project. The role — the main villain of the story — remains uncast.
Direction and Production
The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is set to helm the movie, with a script draft by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Kristin Burr produces through Burr! Productions, and Lucy Kitada will executive produce.
Plot details are under wraps. Disney had briefly paused development after the Rachel Zegler Snow White flopped in early 2025, but resumed work last fall.
It’s thought Disney has decided to go back to what works instead of recasting and retooling the story for a “modern-day audience.”
The Original Tangled
The animated Tangled grossed over $590 million worldwide, earned an Oscar nomination for “I See the Light,” and helped relaunch Disney’s princess lineup. It was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.
Croft and Manheim now lead the next chapter, again, thought to be a more traditional live-action remake after recent backlash over Disney’s casting and creative changes.
