Writer/Director: James Gunn

Cast: David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi playing Mister Terrific. Sean Gunn is playing Maxwell Lord in the DCU, though it’s not clear if he will be in Superman: Legacy. It’s also rumored Milly Alcock as Supergirl will appear in the film prior to her own solo movie.

What is Superman: Legacy about?

DC describes Superman: Legacy as telling the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

James Gunn also previously described his version of Superman as a “big galoot.”

“He’s a big ol’ galoot. He’s a farmboy from Kansas who’s very idealistic. His greatest weakness is that he’ll never kill anybody,” Gunn said. “He doesn’t want to hurt a living soul. I like that sort of innate goodness about Superman; it’s his defining characteristic. He’s not ‘All-Star Superman,’ but again, I’m a huge fan of ‘All-Star Superman,’ and I’m very inspired by [that series].”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Release Date: Unknown

Director: Uknown

Writer: Ana Nogueira

Cast: Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl

What is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow about?

Per Variety: Ultimately, Gunn was looking to move away from previous depictions of the Girl of Steel, particularly the long-running CBS/CW series fronted by Melissa Benoist, and is aiming for a less earnest and more edgy version of the iconic superheroine.

Also via Variety: In the new iteration, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge.

During last year’s DCU announcement Gunn also said: In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.

Batman The Brave and the Bold
DC Comics

Brave and the Bold

Release date: Unknown

Director: Andy Muschietti (The Flash, IT)

Cast: Unknown

What is Brave and the Bold about?

The official description offers “The Brave and the Bold – the DCU will introduce its Batman and Robin in this unusual father-son story inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic series.”

At the press event, Gunn described Damian Wayne as Robin “who is a little son of a bitch.”

“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman,” said Gunn. “Of Bruce Wayne and also introduces our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch.”

Gunn continued, “Assassin, murderer who Batman takes on, who is Batman’s actual son that he doesn’t know exists for the first 8-10 years of his life….it’s a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison’s run of the Batman.”

Gunn also said that once Matt Reeves is done with his own script for The Batman 2 that “it’s something we’ll have to balance out with this movie.”

“Of course, everything’s going to be balanced so The Brave and the Bold is not going to be coming out in the same six-month period as The Batman,” said Gunn.

It’s also confirmed the DCU Batman will be new and not played by Robert Pattinson.

“2025 is going to be a very big year for DC,” said Safran last year. “Superman and Batman within the same year.”
