It’s learned Pacific Rim 2 starts filming this Fall.
Yahoo caught up with director Guillermo del Toro who let it be known shooting begins in November.
Plot details aren’t specific, but it’s said Pacific Rim 2 picks up a few years following the first one, with the report mentioning it will have a sharper focus on the monstrous kaiju.
Guillermo Del Toro confirmed a huge end scene for the movie, and that they are in the middle of designing the new robots and kaiju for the sequel.
“We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple weeks ago,” Guillermo Del Toro said.
“It’s a few years after the first one,” Del Toro stated in a previous interview. “It’s not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”
It’s also said it’s unknown whether Charlie Hunnam will be back as Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket, but with filming to start soon, expect casting announcements to be made in the coming months.
Pacific Rim 2 has an August 4, 2017 release date.
