With Sony and Marvel coming to a deal for Spider-Man, the question is whether the new Spider-Man will be Peter Parker or possibly a different version.
Now a reporter for the Hollywood trade site, The Wrap, is stating the new Spider-Man will be black or possibly Latino.
“This is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now: Spider-Man is not going to be white,” Jeff Sneider said on a podcast. “Spider-Man is not going to be white. I am 95% sure. Spider-Man is going to be most likely black. But there is a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure not white. I don’t think it’s going to be Peter Parker. Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with sort of a major black comic book character. Like I said last week, the e-mails that leaked were perceived to be racist in some quarters. I really think that is going to play into things.”
Marvel Comics does have a black Spider-Man with Miles Morales, which is a part of their Ultimate Universe (and what the movies seem to be more based on). Miles is of Puerto Rican and African American descent.
It’s thought the new Spider-Man will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which is out May 2016, and a standalone Spider-Man film is schedulef for July 28, 2017.
