A bomb went off the other day on the internet when Scarlett Johansson was cast in the Ghost in the Shell movie as a well known Asian character.
The controversy even saw Agents of SHIELD‘s Ming-Na Wen take to Twitter to offer up she wasn’t happy with the news.
“Nothing against Scarlett Johansson. In fact, I’m a big fan. But everything against this Whitewashing of Asian role,” Wen tweeted along with an “unamused” emoji.
There has even been a report that Paramount actually went out and had digital tests done on some of the actors in Ghost in the Shell to make them look more Asian (I’m sure that would have went over well), but it’s said the studio decided against doing it.
Now Max Landis has weighed in on the controversy. Landis is a Hollwood screenwriter who grew up in the business and wrote Victor Frankenstein, American Ultra and Chronicle.

Everybody’s going nuts over Scarlett Johansson getting cast in Ghost in the Shell. May she was just the best person for the job? Right?
