Captain Marvel Passes $800 Million Box Office

Captain Marvel Passes $800 Million Box Office

Good news for those fans that like Brie Larson and the Captain Marvel movie as it now passes $800 million at the box office.

The flick has close to a $278 million box office gross in the U.S., with another $530 million from foreign markets.

So will Captain Marvel hit a billion?

As I previously stated, the movie would get a large foreign gross, as it easily passes Guardians of the Galaxy 2’s $474M foreign box office.

It presently is about 7% higher than Guardian 2’s U.S. gross at the same time frame, so assuming the numbers hold, that would mean Captain Marvel would finish with a U.S. gross of around $417M.

So that would leave the foreign market to make up around $53 million to hit the magic billion dollar mark.

It could be possible, with China still a potential factor. Both Aquaman and Venom had huge showings in China, but Captain Marvel doesn’t look to be anywhere near their numbers. The Chinese reaction seems as mixed as the rest of us.

That said, $900 million+ is still a great number for Marvel and is a great sign leading into The Avengers: Endgame which opens next month. While Marvel hasn’t been doing much marketing for Endgame (Russos comment here), they have teased Brie Larson in three instances, with the Captain Marvel post-credit scene, the Disney investor clip, and the latest trailer. I also dive into whether or not Captain Marvel is a good thing in regards to the X-Men coming to the MCU.
