Box Office: Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ Bombs, TMNT Opens, Barbie Crushing It

Disney’s Haunted Mansion is another major bomb as the flick debuted last weekend and even opened less than the 2003 original.

Haunted Mansion brought in only $24 million in its opening weekend, which is less than the original’s $34 million that went on to make nearly $200 million (over $331 million in today’s dollars).

The flick has a current worldwide gross of only around $36 million and will likely not hit a domestic haul of $50 million in its second weekend.

Haunted Mansion is reported to have a budget of around $150 million, so again, the film is another bomb for Disney which has quite the number of bombs as of late.

Indiana Jones 5, Elemental, The Little Mermaid, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Strange World, Lightyear, et al, all bombed as well.

Disney has been taking a beating as of late, as its Disney+ streaming service doesn’t seem to be living up to expectations, and Bob Iger recently said they are pulling back on both Marvel and Star Wars confirming they will be spending less and making less on the two brands.

WB’s Barbie crushing it

Barbie still continues to crush it and is expected to win the box office for the third weekend in a row with around $55M-$60M. The flick is at $800 million worldwide and looks to hit the magic billion-dollar number.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is at over $400 million worldwide and also goes into its third weekend.

Also opening this week is The Meg 2, estimated to open around $20 million+.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem animated movie also opens this weekend with it hoped it has the same success as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which is nearing the $700 million mark. It’s estimated TMNT will open $30 million+.

It will be interesting to see how well TMNT does as they made a big change with April O’Neil and it’s even claimed Seth Rogen changed Splinter to a gay character (can anyone confirm?).
