While doing press for Nosferatu, Bill Skarsgård opens up about filming Marvel’s Eternals where he played the villain of the movie, the Deviant, Kro.
The actor is also known for playing Pennywise the Clown in the IT movies, which used practical effects, just like Nosferatu where he plays the titular character. However, for Eternals, Marvel went the CGI route and created Kro using digital special effects.
“Felt so absolutely ridiculous and bizarre”
Bill Skarsgård fills in Esquire that he thought filming Eternals was “ridiculous” and “bizarre” and that he much prefers practical effects over CGI:
“Doing a CGI performance, you feel absolutely ridiculous. They called me and asked if I want to do a voice over job for the Marvel movie that they also said you have to fly in and do the scene with Angelina Jolie on Thursday. All they gave me was a picture of the character [laughs]. So I was just looking at this CGI creature, pretending to do its voice. It’s also like seven feet tall or whatever, so I’m like what does that sound like? And then performing to Angelina Jolie, and it was a treat [laughs]. No, it felt so absolutely ridiculous and bizarre, but it was also very fun.”
“Now shooting in prosthetics you feel like the character. 100%. The face and everything. You look in the mirror, you’re like [shakes head up and down], ‘God damn right.’ So I prefer it.”

Will there be Eternals 2?
It’s doubted there will be Eternals 2. The first film mega-bombed at the box office with only $402 million making it one of the lowest-grossing movies of the MCU on a budget coming close to $300 million.
Kevin Feige also recently confirmed, “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.” The trades have also reported Marvel is not developing a sequel.
