The CW Batwoman series starring Ruby Rose is one step closer to getting a full series as a pilot order has been greenlit.
Assuming WB and The CW like what they see with the pilot episode, Batwoman will go on to getting a full series order.
The character and Ruby Rose, who are a part of the Supergirl universe, first appeared as part of the recent Elseworlds crossover that also included Gotham City.
Details for the pilot episode include that it will be directed by David Nutter, who is an Emmy-winning director known for HBO’s Game of Thrones. Nutter also directed the first episodes of both Arrow and The Flash and has credits that also include Supernatural and Smallville.
Here is the official description for Batwoman: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (star Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place) will serve as showrunner and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns are executive producers.
