What is the new Batman animated movie?

Thanks to eagle-eyed fans, two listings confirm Warner Bros. is developing a new Batman animated movie.

The listings reveal Batman: Knightfall, Part 1 is in development which adapts the popular DC Comics story where Batman gets his back broken by the villain, Bane, and Azrael becomes his replacement.

The Batman: Knightfall, Part 1 animated movie was first spotted on EIDR which links to the film’s IMDb page. EIDR is a global registry that assigns unique identifiers to movies and TV shows, making it easier to track and manage content across platforms.

According to both the EIDR and IMDb listings, Jeff Wamester is the director of Batman: Knightfall, Part 1.

Jeff Wamester was the director behind the three-part Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths movies, the Kite Man: Hell Yeah! series, the Legion of Super-Heroes animated movie, Justice Society: World War II, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy animated series. Wamester has also served as the storyboard artist on a slew of other DC animated films including Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One, Batman: Soul of the Dragon, and more.

Speaking of Guardians of the Galaxy, with James Gunn in charge of DC, maybe Dave Bautista will get to voice Bane in the animated films?

What is Batman: Knightfall about?

The comic storyline is also in three parts, which we can guess the animated movies will follow: “Knightfall,” “Knightquest,” and “KnightsEnd.”

Knightfall

“Knightfall” introduces Bane, a brilliant and ruthless adversary who orchestrates a massive breakout at Arkham Asylum, unleashing Gotham’s worst criminals. Batman, physically and mentally exhausted from recapturing the villains, faces Bane in a climactic showdown. In their battle, Bane famously breaks Batman’s back, leaving Bruce Wayne incapacitated and Gotham vulnerable.

Knightquest

“Knightquest” follows two parallel arcs: The Crusade and The Search. While Bruce Wayne seeks healing and a way to reclaim his mantle, Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael), his chosen replacement, takes on the role of Batman. However, Jean-Paul’s extreme methods and deteriorating mental state alienate Gotham’s citizens and allies, revealing the challenges of upholding Batman’s ideals.

KnightsEnd

In “KnightsEnd,” Bruce Wayne returns to reclaim the mantle of Batman from Jean-Paul Valley, who has become increasingly unstable. Bruce undergoes rigorous physical and mental training before confronting Jean-Paul in a final battle for Gotham’s future.balance to Gotham City.
