The Batman: Part II Starts Filming Early Amid WBD Sale

The Batman: Part II is now reportedly set to begin filming in January in Glasgow, Scotland, serving once again as a stand-in for Gotham City.

That’s earlier than previously suggested by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who told investors earlier this year that production would begin in the spring.

The updated timeline suggests Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios are now moving with more urgency on the project. Filming in January gives director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson a head start in meeting the sequel’s October 1, 2027 release date.

Reports also confirm that Dune 3, which previously tied up Pattinson’s schedule, has already wrapped, clearing the way for him to begin work on The Batman 2 with no delays.

Glasgow is Gotham City

Glasgow World reports that Glasgow is once again being transformed into Gotham City as The Batman: Part II is set to begin filming in the city in January 2026.

The sequel has entered pre-production, with principal photography starting early next year and key exterior scenes being shot at locations like Glasgow Cathedral and Anderston train station, both of which featured prominently in the first film.

While most of the production will take place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England, Glasgow will once again provide the gritty urban backdrop for Gotham. Liverpool may also be used for additional cityscape shots to complement the setting.

Production designer Luke Hall also confirmed Glasgow locations (see above IG post).

Why the Rush? A Sale Could Be Imminent

The new production start date also arrives as Warner Bros. Discovery faces a potential studio sale.

Reports suggest that if Skydance and Paramount move forward with an acquisition or merger, a deal could close within six months — right near the end of The Batman: Part II’s filming window.

By contrast, it has been reported if Comcast or Netflix acquires WBD, regulatory hurdles could stretch the approval process out for years.

Release info

The Batman: Part II gets released on October 1, 2027, with Matt Reeves returning to direct, and the script from Reeves and Mattson Tomlin.

Starring includes Robert Pattinson, and IMDb also lists Colin Farrell returning as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
