Avengers 5: Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms Doctor Strange, Films Next Year

The Avengers 5 is an apparent go as Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Doctor Strange for the flick and actually says the movie starts filming next year.

The actor dropped the news in a promo for Netflix (watch below), as Cumberbatch is starring in the streamer’s series, Eric.

“I’ll be really honest about it, the joy of playing him is immense, but also the joy of playing him means I can help create and platform stories and writing and less commercial fare into being,” said Cumberbatch. “So he’s a gift in many, many ways in my life as a producer, as an actor. I love playing him. He’s great fun. I am very much looking forward to Avengers next year.”

What is Avengers 5 about?

Avengers 5 was originally titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” and was supposed to follow up on the events from the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Jonathan Majors was to star as the villain, Kang, and the flick was supposed to also lead into Avengers: Secret Wars.

Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was also supposed to direct but has since exited the project. Likewise, it has also been said Avengers 5 lost writer Jeff Loveness who wrote Quantumania.

The latest reported is that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron wrote a script for Avengers 5 which has been give to Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy to decide to direct.

It’s said the film will feature over 60 Marvel characters and won’t be focusing on a small core group of characters.

Rumors have offered The Avengers team will consist of Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Hulk, Captain America (Sam Wilson), and Moon Knight and that The Avengers 5 will be more street-level this time around.

Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement but there are conflicting reports. Some reports says Marvel is moving away from “Kang Dynasty” and Kang, while others claim Kang will still be featured in the movie but played by another actor.

As things stand, Avengers 5 gets released May 1, 2026.
